Tyro Upgrading Payments Processing Systems
To ensure its merchants benefit from the highest level of security, Tyro is upgrading its payments processing systems.
If you have received a recent email from Tyro, or use a Tyro terminal and run the affected Window versions mentioned below, please follow these simple instructions to avoid any interruptions when taking payments.
As of October 1, 2016, Tyro will be upgrading its payments processing system to ensure you benefit from the highest levels of security while processing EFTPOS integrated transactions.
If your Point of Sale (POS) is using an older version of the Windows XP or Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 operating system, you must upgrade it by September 30, 2016 to Windows XP Service Pack 3 or a higher version to continue to take payments uninterrupted.
Operating systems that ARE affected:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or earlier), Windows XP 64-bit.
Operating systems that are NOT affected:
Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8, or 10.
What you need to do
- Check which version of Windows XP version you use
If using a mouse:
- Exit your Point of Sale system
- Click “Start”
- Right click on “My Computer” or “Computer"
- If you see a dialog box titled “System Properties” look on the General tab for details
- If you see a dialog box titled “View basic information about your computer” look under Windows edition for details
If you are not using a mouse:
- Exit your Point of Sale system
- Press the Windows key + R to bring up Command Prompt
- Or press the Windows key then use the arrow keys and enter to choose All Programs, Accessories and then Command Prompt
- Once the Command Prompt window is open, type the following command exactly: systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS"
- Upgrade to a higher Windows XP or Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 version
- Exit your Point of Sale system
- Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update
- Follow the instructions to install Windows XP Service Pack 3
