Recipe Costing

A feature of our Restaurant POS Systems, the Recipe Costing component allows the cost price of prepared food to be calculated by adding raw ingredients as stock items to the Idealpos database. Food products that are sold to a customer can then be setup as indirect stock items, so each time they are sold, the stock level of raw ingredients are deducted from stock.

By entering these ingredients into Idealpos through Stock Purchases or Purchase Orders, the cost price is updated and flows through to the indirect item, updating the total cost price of that indirect item. This is also used for mixed drinks such as cocktails and mocktails.

This functionality becomes more efficient when used with Stock Manufacturing.

Stock Control

Depending on the work environment, some ingredients can be used in minimal measures, such as 5ml of this, 2gm of that. It's very easy to say "I don't need to account for that, it's such a small amount". In business, it's the little things that matter.

5mls of Cointreau in a cocktail isn't a lot. But if you sell 100 of those cocktails over a weekend, that's a 500ml bottle of Cointreau gone for no reason. Idealpos allows you to take control back and record the little details.

Cost Control

Using the Cointreau example, what exactly does 5ml of Cointreau even cost? Let's say a bottle costs about $60/L, so 5ml will land around .30c. Including all the other ingredients used in your cocktail, you might not even be pricing correctly.

When you use recipe costing right down to the nitty gritty, you can see the true value of your item and charge accordingly. What was a $16 cocktail with Cointreau, should really be a $16.50 cocktail.

Manufacture Items

Idealpos gives you the ability to manufacture items so you can include them in other menu items. These include items such as sauces, potato salads and more. These items can live on a shelf and be added to meal as a serve, keeping portion control and costs on track.

Manufacturing items allows them to be made up of many ingredients, and then the item you have created is then included as an ingredient in the item that is sold to customers.
